We never know the challenge we may be confronted with on any given day. 2006 has been a difficult year for Jill* who was diagnosed with breast cancer and learned she was pregnant all in the same month. When Jill realized that she could no longer support herself financially, she moved in with her family. She came to Catholic Charities through a friend’s referral to the Donna Hicken Foundation.
Catholic Charities helped Jill by providing counseling, financial and maternity assistance, and giving food, maternity and baby items to her and her family. She says she never thought that an agency would do as much as Catholic Charities did to help her. In addition to the concrete services provided, Catholic Charities was a source of support, guidance and understanding during this incredibly difficult time for Jill.
“It was such a comfort knowing that I had somewhere to turn to for help,” said Jill. “Catholic Charities has been a blessing and has touched my heart. My situation has been a true miracle because of them.”
Now as she undergoes her second round of chemo treatments and prepares for radiation while taking care of her premature baby, she is taking it step by step. Through guidance and friendship, Catholic Charities has prepared Jill for a steady recovery as a new mom.
