Catholic Charities
For Rodney Law, calling Catholic Charities changed the course of his life. Last spring he was in desperate need of emergency assistance for himself and his son. In the past three years, he had lost his job, become divorced from his wife, gained custody of his son, was forced to move out of his apartment and endured the deaths of both his parents. “I was going through so much at the time,” Rodney says. That’s when he made an appointment with Catholic Charities for help.
He met with Jane McIntosh, case manager for the Network of Care program. The program provides long-term case management for individuals and families. The goal is to help clients become completely self-sufficient within six months, although client follow-ups continue for a year. Within six months, clients should be employed, have necessary skills training and knowledge of how to manage their finances.

Jane helped Rodney with rent assistance, clothing and food as well as school supplies for his son. Rodney is currently preparing for his GED examination at Florida Community College and is hoping to complete the automotive-service technology program within the year.

His son, Rodney Jr., is now eleven years old, and thanks to a scholarship through the Guardian of Dreams, he now attends St. Pius V Catholic School. He began the school year in August is already receiving good grades.

Recently, Rodney was able to secure a one-bedroom apartment for himself and his son. “It’s not how big it is, but how much love you put inside it,” Rodney says.
“It didn’t look like anything was going to work for me,” Rodney added. “Now everything is getting back on track. I can’t stop thanking God enough for Catholic Charities. Once I get my certificate, I want to give back to those who gave me a second chance at life—at success.”
