Opportunities Become a Reality for a Catholic Charities Client

Michelle is a 48 year old female client that was referred to the Workforce Program by our Emergency Assistance (EA) Department. Michelle had lost her job as a warehouse associate, was falling behind on her bills and her future was questionable.

After receiving rent assistance from our Emergency Financial Assistance department, Michelle was eager to be a part of the Workforce Development Program in hopes of starting a new career and changing the course of her life. While enrolled in the May 2018 job readiness class, Michelle received new interview attire and transportation assistance. During the 26-hour class she participated with classmates in discussions to gain soft skills employers want such as ability to communicate with others and work in a team.

By being part of the May cohort, she also grew her network that could help her uncover new opportunities. After creating a new resume and cover letter, she participated in several mock interviews where she received coaching from professionals. Michelle’s high energy and confidence level impressed our mock interviews. Through a referral to one of our employer partners, she landed a full-time position with benefits as an office clerk by the end of the class.

The Workforce Development program offers job-readiness training, interview and computer skills training, resume/cover letter assistance and job referrals for low-income, unemployed or underemployed adults.

We tailor our services to the needs of each client in our program. Whether it be through one-on-one coaching or creating a personal career plan, our program is unique in the job training arena.

This Labor Day, we are reminded of the achievements of working Americans who strengthened our nation. Help us celebrate their legacy by supporting our mission.

Your donation will help people like Michelle, a recent graduate of our program, who told us, “Catholic Charities gave me the opportunity to prove myself to myself, my family, and everyone around me.”
