This month we invite you to joins us as we celebrate the 106th World Day of Migrants and Refugees (WDMR) on September 27, 2020. The theme for this year's celebration is "Forced like Jesus Christ to flee."
Catholic Charities Jacksonville is one of only two organizations in Northeast Florida that serve Refugees. A refugee is a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. While the past year has seen an overall decrease in the number of new arrivals we have continued to provide services to those in need and are getting ready to welcome three new families to Jacksonville.
We work tirelessly to provide transitions into the US for individuals and families people fleeing violence and/or persecution. People like Jonathan, who recently shared his family's story with us during our Annual Meeting. For many of our clients, the choice to leave their homes is one of survival, and for Jonathan, had Catholic Charities not been there for them, he isn't sure what would have happened. Now that they are safe, they are thriving here in Jacksonville. Johnathan is working hard to graduate college and hopes to become a computer engineer.
We are so grateful we are able to help transform the lives of those in need. Fleeing to flourishing is what we are proud to celebrate this September.
