Welcome, Bishop Erik Pohlmeier!

Join us in extending a warm welcome to our new Bishop, Bishop Erik Pohlmeier. For the past 24 years, he has served as a pastor in the Diocese of Little Rock, which encompasses the entire state of Arkansas.

Bishop Pohlmeier’s last assignment was as pastor of the largest parish in Little Rock, Christ the King, and as director of the Faith Formation and Deacon Formation offices. He has been the theological consultant for the Arkansas Catholic newspaper for 19 years and director of continuing education of clergy since 2019.

Reflecting on his appointment to the Diocese of St. Augustine in late July, Bishop Pohlmeier told Action News Jax, “I am grateful for every way I have been called to serve the Church, and I am humbled by this opportunity to serve in the place where Mass was first celebrated in the United States. May God be praised for any good work I am able to do.”

Catholic Charities hosted a tailgating celebration prior to the Jumbo Shrimp game on Wednesday, Aug. 17. The festivities began around 5 p.m. in the parking lot. Food and drinks were provided by Catholic Charities board member Mike Robertson. We celebrated with a group of around 30 people, including the new Bishop!

A shirt was made for Bishop Pohlmeier that said “Catholic Charities” on the front with his name and the number 11 (since he is the 11th Bishop in our Diocese) on the back. He was also given a Jumbo Shrimp baseball cap to wear as he threw the ceremonial first pitch at the game.

Welcome, Bishop Pohlmeier! We’re excited to grow under your leadership.
